History
Shaping the future with an awareness of our history.
The company's roots go back to 1899. It all began with the processing of kapok, a natural filling material for upholstery. Over the generations, this has grown into Martens Polsterwerk, which today supports brands worldwide as a system partner.

1899 Hubert Martens founds a kapok factory in Kevelaer. Kapok is a natural fibre for upholstery and mattresses.

1910 The factory makes mattresses and opens its own department for spiral-spring mattresses.

1935 Tonius Martens, the founder’s son, sets up his own company. It still bears his name today.

1964 Leo Martens takes over as the third generation.

1993 Irene Martens leads the company in the fourth generation, today with more than 100 employees.
